Hub and Spoke for My Ideas

I keep getting excited about new things, and new projects. I keep starting up websites, and thinking of new business, ideas etc. The biggest problem is I'm all over the place. I have no central place to stay focused, to collect my thoughts, and ideas. That's the purpose of this website. To collect all my efforts into one place. In this way, this blog will become a graveyard for my old discarded ideas (when they become that) and a journal/chronicling of the history of ideas that stand up. Below is a list of websites that I run, along with the general concept behind them: 1. Functionalstrengthlab.com - this was one of my first sites, and it's still running. The idea behind this site was to discuss functional strength topics (which was/is a popular subject matter) as well as work on SEO. Through this site, I also learned how to embed Microsoft Excel documents into my site, had an app built (to determine user's 1 rep max), and also had a web app built (to determine the appropriate kettle bell weight to begin with). The web app also offered an Amazon Affiliate link for the appropriate kettle bell. So I guess I also used this website to learn more about Amazon Affiliates. Overall, I've basically let this website fall by the wayside, because I had a hosting/WP issue (I don't really know the root cause) that caused the site to be down for multiple months. Not that I ever had a ton of traffic (probably 10-20 a day at max), but after that amount of time being offline, the site has tanked. 2. CubeLion.com - I bought this domain because I loved the name, and I had a cool idea for a simple logo. An orangish square (lions face), nestled into a slightly different orange square (the lion's mane). At first I want this to be a forum site for 3D printing, when I first got excited about the topic. I never built it up though under that format, and changed over to make it a high energy coffee company. I even filed for an LLC for it. Problem was I couldn't find anyone willing to private label roast for me, and I was unwilling to buy a roaster and a facility. I still think this is a good idea (that many other companies are starting to trickle into), but it's not a "now" project. 3. CondensedMBA.com - I have an MBA from Ohio State, and I loved getting it...but I also think that all of the information could be distilled down a lot. I created this site to distill down everything I learned, and to list key books, etc. When I got excited about YouTubing, which you'll see below, I also started posting Excel tutorials that I was creating. I also wanted to use this site to write about current business topics/trends and to insert my thoughts into it. I still have hopes for this site. Also, I created a map Macro in Excel, that color codes the various states of the US (and later I did it for other regions of the world) based on the data that you put into the file. I was very proud of this because I had been looking for a cheap solution for this at a previous job, but everything I found was in the $1000s. I think the newest version of Excel offeres it for free! I've left these files on my site and I'm selling them for ~$5 per map. This was my first foray into using WooCommerce. 4. YarnSpool.com - I'm excited that this site could be something fun. This is meant to be a short story marketplace, devoted to distributing short stories only. I've had the idea for awhile but I need to figure out how to get authors excited about putting their work on my site. I wrote my own short story to put on the site and give away for free and learned a little more about WooCommerce and form building (for creating the page for the author to submit their short story.) 5. YouTubing - This is my new hobby within a hobby. I love posting to YouTube and watching my viewership/subscribership/ad revenues grow (albeith slowly). All the new projects I get excited about, I film and now post onto YouTube. Additionally, I also post Excel how-to's when I find something that helps make my life easier at work. I love teaching and sharing cool project ideas. If you're interested, please subscribe here: Brian Dick's YouTube Channel. And then, start up your own channel, as well. It's fun. And now, the final project is this website. This will be the central point for all of my exciting new thoughts, projects, etc. This way I can try to keep my thoughts more centrally located, and keep a record of all the ideas that come and go.
